New Study Finds Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract Improves Microcirculation to Improve Wound Healing in At-Risk Patients

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                      Contact: Janus Baker                      (949) 855-2776, Ext. 135

People with heart disease or type 2 diabetes often find that wounds don’t heal as quickly as they should. The problem? The microcirculatory system that carries blood from blood vessels to the tissues can be compromised, limiting blood flow to the site of wounds. Yet, according to new research conducted at Lund University’s Skåne University Hospital in Sweden, Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract (AGE) can increase microcirculation blood flow by 31% compared to placebo in these at-risk patients.

Microcirculation refers to the minute network of arterioles, capillaries, and venules (tiny veins that connect the capillaries to larger veins) that deliver oxygen and nutrients from the arteries into the individual cells and tissues throughout the body. Microcirculation also regulates the amount of blood that infuses tissue—a critical factor in wound healing.

During this particular double-blind study, which was published in the International Wound Journal, researches selected 122 patients with a Framingham Risk Score of <10. The Framingham Risk Score is a gender-specific algorithm used to estimate the 10-year cardiovascular risk of an individual. The participants were then randomized to receive either 2,400 mg of AGE or a placebo for the next 12 months. Cutaneous microcirculation—the circulation that takes place in the dermis and just below the surface of the skin—was measured using a unique technique known as Laser Doppler velocimetry at the beginning and the end of the trial. Laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV) is a test used to accurately measure the speed of blood flow at a specific site.

According to the LDV results after 12 months of supplementation, microcirculation improved in the AGE group, especially in those with an increased risk of a cardiovascular event like heart attack or stroke. This lead the researchers to suggest that increased microcirculation could facilitate wound healing.

The subject of more than 800 published studies and scientific papers, Kyolic AGE has been shown in earlier research to have a positive effect on vascular elasticity and endothelial function. Peer reviewed research also shows that AGE supports healthy cholesterol and blood pressure levels, reduces coronary artery calcification, improves arterial integrity, enhances metabolic heath, and strengthens immunity. This is the first study to look at AGE’s beneficial impact on microcirculation and wound healing.

“These findings could prove to be extremely good news for anyone diagnosed with cardiovascular disease—and especially people with type 2 diabetes,” says Jay Levy, Director of Sales for Wakunaga of America. “Compromised wound healing is a common problem among diabetics. The ability of Kyolic AGE to enhance microcirculation at the site of wounds could help prevent infection and other serious complications.”

About Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract: Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract begins in the garlic fields of Central California. The garlic is grown under strict organic conditions without the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides. When fully mature, the garlic is harvested, cleaned, and sliced before being placed in specialized stainless steel containers where it is aged for up to 20 months. This process converts harsh and unstable organosulfur compounds into the odorless, non-irritating, and bioavailable compounds which are responsible for Kyolic’s numerous health benefits. Throughout the process, the garlic is tested for purity and potency so consumers can be assured they are getting the highest quality, most effective Aged Garlic supplements available.
